Abstract

Background: Neonatal herpesvirus infection that happens during birth is often linked with serious health problems and even mortality, and the worldwide incidence is roughly 10 cases per 100,000 live births.

Objective: This study was done to judge how much nurses in neonatal intensive care units know about herpesvirus infection in newborns, more like what they understand in real life.

Method: Used a descriptive research design, and a convenience group of 50 nurses who are currently working in NICUs took part . For data collection they used two tools : (I) an Arabic language structured interview questionnaire that asked about demographic stuff such as sex, age, educational qualification, years of NICU experience , prior training on herpesvirus infection and also where the information came from , and (II) a knowledge assessment sheet to check nurses understanding of herpesvirus infection.

Result: The sample breakdown by sex still needs checking [46.0% said female, 54% said male , but it was also written as “exclusively female” so please verify with the original data .] About education, most of the participants were graduates from nursing institutes and nursing colleges , with both groups at 34% of the total.

Conclusion: The null hypothesis , meaning that there is no link between nurses demographic traits and their knowledge level about herpesvirus infection, was rejected. So the alternative hypothesis was supported, which means there is a meaningful association between demographic characteristics and knowledge level.
