Abstract

Background: Nursing interventions such as medication management, patient education, and wound care are widely believed to influence patient outcomes and satisfaction, but healthcare professionals' perspectives on implementing these interventions are less well documented.

Objective: To examine the influence of medication management, patient education, and wound care interventions on patient outcomes and satisfaction, and to capture healthcare professionals' perspectives on their implementation.

Methods: A mixed-methods study combined quantitative analysis of patient surveys and medical records with qualitative data from interviews and focus group discussions with healthcare professionals. Quantitative data (n=15 patients) captured medication adherence and health improvement scores, patient education level and satisfaction scores, and wound size relative to healing time. Fifteen healthcare professionals (4–18 years of experience) were surveyed on their perceptions of the three intervention types.

Results: A positive but variable association was observed between medication adherence and health improvement. Patient satisfaction increased with education level (average 4.2 for School of Nursing–level education to 5.5 for nursing degree). Wound size and healing time trended together. Professionals expressed largely positive perceptions of medication management, with more mixed views on wound care and patient education interventions.

Conclusion: Well-structured medication management is associated with improved outcomes, and satisfaction varies by education level, supporting tailored education strategies. Professionals view wound care favorably but highlight a need for ongoing training and resources.
