Abstract

This review paper presents a critical analysis of the various methods of dielectric constant measurement, progress made in the field as well as its applications up to 2022 in microwave frequencies. The paper focuses on the discussion of measurement techniques such as resonant cavity techniques, transmission/reflection and free space techniques. In this chapter, we explain what these methods are, their benefits and drawbacks, as well as developments in these approaches lately. The review also presents an insight into the role played by dielectric constant measurements in various areas including material characterization, electromagnetic modelling and microwave devices and antennas. At last, we present some suggestions for the improvement of dielectric constant measurement at microwave frequency as well as future research trends.
