Abstract

The present work focuses on the relevance of environmental education for solving present-day environmental problems. Man is surrounded by biotic and abiotic components known as the environment, which includes the atmosphere, hydrosphere, biosphere and lithosphere. Environmental issues are related to all of them and include climate change, global warming, various types of pollution, loss of biodiversity, ozone depletion, ecological imbalance, increasing levels of greenhouse gases and destructive development. Environmental issues have now become a problem for all the countries in the world and pose a threat to the survival of human beings and other living organisms on this earth in the near future. Sustainable development is the need of the day. Lack of education is the root cause of all problems; therefore, the right type of education will provide a permanent solution for the issues related to the environment. The main objective of this work is to understand the various environmental problems, their causes, effects and measures for tackling them. The work is based on a literature review of primary and secondary sources, using conceptual analysis, comparative study, exploration and critical evaluation. As this work falls in the category of fundamental research, it adds information to the existing field of knowledge that can be used in applied or action research for solving environmental issues.
